Nat Hentoff: "The press ought to awaken the citizenry not only to the FBI's harvesting lists of what 'suspect' Americans read, but also to the judicial silencing of bookstores and libraries that are being compelled to betray the privacy and First Amendment rights of readers."  [Scripting News]

Every year, the US exports about 10 million obsolete computers to Asia to be disposed of as hazardous waste.

On average, each computer contains 13 pounds of plastic, 3 pounds of lead, enough cadmium to pollute 250,000 gallons of drinking water, enough chromium to pollute 10,000 gallons, and enough mercury to pollute 260,000 gallons.

The US is the only industrialized country that has not ratified the Basel Convention, which bans the export of hazardous wastes. The Convention has been ratified by 134 countries, including France, Germany, Great Britain, Russia, and Japan.

Digital Journey is a series of multiformat programs which explore human/technological evolution in the networked era . Digital Journey programs seek to gain a more complete understanding of new and emerging technologies in their business, social, environmental, and cultural contexts. The series is built in a "positive feedback" format, embedding the innovations covered in each program's content into the production and distribution of that content. Program elements are distributed through broadcast, cable, broadband, internet and wireless web.

I watched some Digital Journey while at home sick today. Just passing time.
