kainjow makes cool mac software

2002.09.12 . .

Simple, free apps. That's what I like. Check out kainjow for that which I like. Pod2Go, PodWeather, DropJPEG, and DockIP all rock. There's even some fun movies, like the one of the chipmunk. I'm inspired. You can expect an iceplant exclusive video in an upcoming edition of 1/2 minute theater of the crazy chipmunks (squirrels or whatever they are) that run around in our backyard and knock it out high up in the trees, defying death in the name of pleasure.

China's Great Fire Wall

2002.09.12 . .

The Boston Globe reports on Chinese Internet blocking, which was redirecting Chinese web browers from Google and AltaVista to home-grown, censored search engines:

Authorities apparently targeted Google and AltaVista because they don't filter material deemed subversive from their search results, as the Chinese sites must.   Still, analysts said the brief period of rerouting had demonstrated authorities' growing technological capabilities.   Another new censorship technology remained in place. Users this week have begun complaining of an increase in selective blocking -- being able to visit Web sites but not being able to see specific articles or other content of a politically sensitive nature.   Both new technologies appear an effort by authorities to strengthen Internet barriers to subversive and pornographic material - China's so-called Great Fire Wall.
