I am writing on behalf of Global Vision International (GVI), a UK based organisation that is seeking Volunteers for a pioneering marine conservation assistance project in Mexico.
Starting June 2003, GVI will be running a research expedition on Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, Mexico. In conjunction with Amigos de Sian Ka'an (ASK), the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve Management, National Commission for Natural Protected Areas (CONANP), a number of international NGO's will be involved including The Nature Conservancy, Reefcheck and The Coral Reef Alliance. The expedition work will focus on:
i. The collection of coral reef baseline characterisation and monitoring data on the northern part of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef.
ii. The occurrence, distribution and ecology of marine mammals.
iii. Training and assisting local fishermen to conduct multi-fish species spawning aggregation surveys.
iv. Community-based environmental awareness programmes.Results are also used by the Reefbase, The International Coral Reef Information Network and international universities. We are now seeking volunteers to assist our work on the Mesoamerican barrier reef from June 2003 and onwards. While no experience is necessary, as full training is given, including SCUBA training, we are particularly interested in recruiting Volunteers with an active interest in marine conservation issues.

1,200 US citizens were asked: "To the best of your knowledge, how many of the September 11 hijackers were Iraqi citizens?"
Of those surveyed, only 17 percent knew the correct answer: that none of the hijackers were Iraqi. Forty-four percent of Americans believe that most or some of the hijackers were Iraqi; another 6 percent believe that one of the hijackers was a citizen of that most notorious node in the axis of evil.
