Tiles

2003.07.13 . .

Aimée and I took a mosaics class this weekend in Oakland. It was fantastic! We both made some fun pieces that I'll share on iceplant radio later. For now, I offer you a picture I took of all the tiles Aimée was working with.

ReefBase Online GIS

2003.07.13 . .

"ReefBase's Online Geographic Information System (GIS) allows you to display coral reef related data and information on interactive maps. You can zoom, search and query datalayers, and save or bookmark the map."

I saved an image from this amazing resource for your viewing pleasure. You can save images in PNG or bitmap so I chose PNG and then shrunk it down in size and converted it to a JPG. It's nice to see ReefBase support the PNG format. I was able to select a few choices, such as 'Protected areas', 'Coral Reefs', 'Mangroves', 'Surface Water', and 'Reefs at risk' in Fiji. ReefBase produce this map.

You can also copy a bookmark to the image, complete with the settings, including location, you've chosen. This is supposed to be a link to the map you see above but it didn't work for me with Safari on Mac OS X. Instead, it brought me to the Map section home page.

The ReefBase GIS also has a good help page. Just click on the Help button and a new window will appear complete with FAQ and documentation.

Skin your iPod

2003.07.13 . .

I want one of these for my iPod!

The iPod BodyMask is a $6, printable adhesive sheet that's die-cut for easy wrapping around an iPod. It protects your device's finish and allows you skin it with any design you care to print from your color inkjet. The adhesive peels away easily and leaves no marks on the iPod's finish.
