Shifting Baselines Ocean Media Project Announces THE SB PHOTO CONTEST

“Shifting Baselines refers to change in nature, and nothing documents change better than photographs,” says Randy Olson, Director of the Shifting Baselines Ocean Media Project. To explore the ways in which photography can reflect change in the oceans, Shifting Baselines (SB) is calling for submissions in their first ever Photo Contest.

The major criterion for submissions is that they capture the essence of “shifting baselines” in the oceans as described in the SB OpEd from the LA Times which is posted on the SB website. Photos must be submitted via e-mail. Deadline for submissions is July 20, 2004. Entries will be evaluated by a panel of five judges, including underwater photographers Bob Talbot and Chuck Davis, marine biologists Dr. Jane Lubchenco and Dr. Steven Palumbi, and legendary television producer Norman Lear. The top three winners will receive gift certificates to a photography store.
