Become the Media starts now

2004.07.22 . .

Today I finally started blogging at my site, Become the Media. Inspired by Jello Biafra, I grabbed this domain name a few years ago with the intention to help others with the web. Well, the best way I know to get that train moving is to start a blog.

Installing a new G5 and 20" Apple diplay

2004.07.22 . .

For the past two days I've been setting up an Apple G5 for a new client. This computer is huge and quite heavy. It's striking and speedy as well. I'd love to get my hands on one of these things. The new Apple flat panel display is beautiful. Pure and simple. I didn't want to leave the machine behind when I'd finished my work.

Thankfully Apple makes it easy to upgrade from one Mac to another. Just plug in a firewire cable, turn the machine on and choose 'Upgrade from another Mac' or whatever it says to that effect. It actually works pretty well, transferring not only User data but Apps and other settings as well, including OS 9 thankfully. I figure this little feature saved me at least 4 - 6 hours of work. Um, that's a good thing. I value my time more than I value money. Go figure.

One thing, don't forget to plug in the Airport antenna. It's a little doodad that just plugs into the back of the tower. Until I did this, the iBook in the other room was having much trouble connecting. Now it's all good. I'm used to an airport hub configuration but this time I got to experience working with a wireless connection using nothing more than two airport cards. One extreme. One not.
