Welcome to iceplant radio by DJ dBug
Ready to commit to Gmail? Try Gmailto.
You've heard me talk about gCount on iceplant radio before. It's the little menu item that tells me if I've got mail waiting for me on my Gmail account. Tonight I discovered GmailStatus, an alternative to gCount as well as Gmailto,a little gem that helps complete the circuit. Once you run Gmailto and configure a preference in Mail, any time you click on an email address, say on a web page in Safari, rather than opening your default email application, it will take you to your Gmail account web page, ready to send the email from there instead.
There's a PC version called G-Mailto as well.
Alternative Music on KCRW.com
"Now Playing on KCRW.com: Eastern Eyes Feat. Natacha Atlas by Nitin Sawhney at 9:27 on Metropolis "
I can't tell you how much I like KCRW. I find myself tuning in more and more these days.
Happiness is a new edition of the Daily Source Code by Adam Curry
I'm hooked. I love listening to Adam's audio blog, Daily Source Code. I want to be an audio blogger too. I've already got on audio interview under my belt for Coral Reef Report and now I've been setting up my computer to make it easy to audio blog.
I'm considering using MegaSeg as my main interface. MegaSeg allows me to choose different output sources so that I can be playing music out of the speakers and listen to totally different tracks through my headphones, figuring out what I want to play next. Like the Live365 app that Adam uses, I can have something cued up and can play it by hitting one key. It's also got a microphone button that smoothly turns down the music to allow the microphone to take center stage. I love MegaSeg and hope it works for me. I'll report back how it goes.
I've hoooked up a microphone to a Griffin iMic. What else do I need? I'm not sure yet... I've still got to figure out how to do this stuff easily. Adam is currently using Live365 which I actually helped beta test. It would be a great app if only they would unbundle it from their service. I couldn't afford the $ to stream my old station, iceplant radio (the audio adjunct to this weblog where I streamed music created by my favorite DJ's from the Bay area) so I stopped beta testing and gave up my account.
Now that I've finally seen the light with audio enclosures in my RSS feed, I realize this is where I'll be going next.
Radio Reading
On my new blog, Radio: The Missing Manual, I'm slowly building an outline of Radio UserLand links.
The first complete section is called "What's in my toolbelt?" and contains a list of Tools that I regularly use. What's in your toolbelt?By the way, I'm using Radio to maintain the outline, and my favorite tool, activeRenderer, to turn that outline into a web page.
Oceana Network || Jon's Journal: Day 15
Jon Warrenchuk is blogging over on The Oceana Network.
Oceana Network || Jon's Journal: Day 15: "Man... the combination of high definition underwater cameras and a submersible with dexterous mechanical arms is unbeatable. With this set-up, we're able to observe and record deep-sea corals alive in their natural habitat, then collect those exact same individual corals for physiological measurements."
