Lucky Treasure
The other night, as I was getting ready to pull out into traffic, I heard a horrible thud next to me. I looked out into the street and saw a cat bouncing off of a car. The cat curled up in a strange looking ball, obviously racked with pain. It made me ill to watch and I feared the cat would die right in front of my eyes.
Fortunately, a woman who was walking by pulled the cat out of the busy street and my Pop took it up to our porch. It was in shock so we draped it with a blanket. My sweetie and I raced to the emergency Vet and they took a look. There was blood in his eye and the person behind the desk said that was not a good sign. I cried and cursed at the careless people who drive much too fast on our new street in Oakland.
A while later, the Vet came in the room with the cat and said it was a very lucky cat. She flushed the blood out of his eye and prescribed some eye drops for it. We decided to call it Lucky. The next day we took a digital photograph and posted flyers all around. Two days later and I get a call from a man who said his sons had seen the cat's photo in the store down the way. The family came over and picked up their cat, who immediately started meowing loudly as they approached my doorway. They said his name is Treasure and they were so appreciative for what we'd done.
I feel good and I hope Lucky doesn't try to cross the street again.
