strangelove, or how i spent my thanksgiving weekend

2004.11.28 . .

Wake up, get out of bed, determined that this is the day that I will once and for all configure my podcasting session. Guided by the same rule that dictates my backup philosophy, "if it ain't easy, you ain't gonna do it", I set about my task.

Just follow Dave Slusher's instructions. Didn't quite work, so I refer to Hugo's notes. That works but Soundflowerbed seems like it crashes on my if I ever change any of it's settings, and I can't seem to hear myself in my headphones. Also, the whole thing seems to sort of work better if I unplug my Soundsticks, which is lame. This and that, try something else, restart, ack!

Two days later and it still isn't working right. I suspect the culprit is soundbed, a virtual mixing board of sorts that many other Mac casters are using without issue. Whatever it doesn't like about my system I'm tired of chasing, so I decided to break out my Mackie DFX-12 mixer. This bad boy takes up way too much space on my desk and is certainly overkill but it works and I actually like pushing those little sliders around with my fingers. It's something you can't experience fully with a software based solution. So... I'm quite close to something that works well and can allow me to get back to casting out to some pods.

Currently, I'm using Audacity to record my final session. I might use Audio Hijack Pro as well. I like how Audio Hijack Pro remembers my meta tag information for easy addition to any new recordings I make.
