Yesterday, I headed up north from Oakland, Ca. on my Pacific Northwest road trip. After driving most of the day and into the night with a couple of rest stops along the way, I decided to stay the night at Jedediah Smith Redwood Park just outside of Oregon. I took the 101 for it's scenic quality, a highway I've travelled many times. I was the sole camper at this state park so I had my pick of the place. I opted for space #26, read a bit, planned my next days' route and fell asleep.
Travelling in the VW Eurovan is something else. Really, really nice. The bed is comfortable, the cabin is well lit, the curtains completely shut out the world, and it gets pretty good gas mileage.
I'm writing this post from a rest stop outside of Grants Pass. Today I had a funny experience. I was cruising around Grants Pass, searching for wi-fi hotspots but couldn't find any. So, I pulled into the Library parking lot and was about to go inside and surf the net with their computer when my Pop called me on my cell phone. We chatted for a spell and then I told him where I was. He said, "We were in Grants Pass just yesterday getting our RV worked one. There's an open linksys router just across the street." Ye-hi! I hauled over there and 10 minutes later I was sucking down my emails and RSS feeds in the back of the van.
I've quickly learned a few things about wi-fi and traveling. There's never a wi-fi hotspot when you need one. My Titanium's reception sucks big time. My Titanium's battery life sucks big time. After pulling down a bunch of feeds in NNW, I can read the feeds but there are no pictures? What's up? Are all the pictures referenced on the net? Can NNW pull the images down for off-line viewing? And finally, I'm tired of feeds that don't put the entire text in the feed. Especially now that I'm reading off-line, I want the entire post!
Next, I'm heading to Jude's house in Medford. Jude used to live in the same building as me in Hawaii. She moved to Oregon and ended up with my folks dog, Popeye. I can't wait to see them both. That's all for now. Later potaters.
